Amino Acids
Amino acids are classified as either essential or non-essential. Essential amino acids cannot be synthesised in the body and must be obtained from the diet, whereas non-essential amino acids, whilst still essential for health, can be synthesised in the body and are therefore not classified as essential.
Amino acids are used by the body to build proteins. Proteins are essential for the formation of cells and are also involved in the biochemical structure of hormones, enzymes, neurotransmitters and antibodies. Amino Acids can help increase muscle tissue and lean body mass and may also help speed recovery after exercise.

BCAA - Branch Chain Amino Acids
- There is much interest amongst sports therapists in the branch chain amino acids (BCAAs), Leucine, Isoleucine and Valine since they are the only amino acids actually metabolised in the muscle. Indeed they make up approximately 33% of muscle protein and hence are particularly useful for high intensity sport or resistance training.
